In light of social distancing restrictions due to COVID-19, the Boys & Girls Club of the South Coast Area is taking our 2020 Driving Dreams Golf Tournament virtual! This tournament is our second largest fundraiser of the year and provides vital resources for our summer camp, so we hope you will participate.

During this crisis, we have delivered over 6,000 meals to families in need and provided virtual programming to keep kids engaged while schools and our Club is closed. We are also preparing to open for summer camp several weeks early so that families can get back to work. Now more than ever, our community is relying on us to have essential needs met, from food security to safe and affordable childcare. We need your support so we can be there for those who need us most.

With your donation, we will continue to deliver hot meals and groceries to families in need. We will also train our staff to maintain safe social distancing practices and ready our Club to safely reopen. Your generosity will also ensure we can provide financial aid for those struggling the most due to COVID-19.

So what will the tournament look like? In short, whatever you want! You’ll assemble your foursome (or if you don’t have a group we can pair you up), choose the date between June 26 through July 5 that works for you, and schedule a tee time at the course of your choosing. We have reduced our player fees since you will be responsible for your greens and cart fees. You will also pick up your player gift at the Club anytime between 10am-6pm on 6/26 or 10am-2pm on 6/27. You can contact us to arrange another time if this doesn’t work for you.

Your player gift will include:

  • BGCSCA stocked cooler with beverages and snacks
  • Golf balls
  • Face mask
  • Hand sanitizer
  • Voucher for dinner (and lunch if you are a sponsor guest)
  • Tournament and contest rules
  • Instructions for utilizing the 18 Birdies app while on the course (staff can provide tutorials while at pickup)
  • Other goodies

When you get to the course for your tee time, check in to the tournament on the 18 Birdies app. While we aren’t able to offer some of the contests you are used to, we will have the following contests through the app and your player gift will include all the details:

  • First through Third Place (using 18 Birdies scramble format scoring and tie-break determination)
  • Longest drive on your course’s longest par 5 (using the Track Drive feature in 18 Birdies)
  • Best swing (using the Swing Analysis feature in 18 Birdies)
  • Worst swing (using the Swing Analysis feature in 18 Birdies)
  • Hot Ball (using the golf ball provided in your group leader’s player gift)
  • Best dressed foursome (shared on the tournament board in 18 Birdies)

While we will miss the typical comradery of our tournament, we are proud to leverage available technology to connect virtually in support of the kids and families we serve. If you are not interested in golfing, please consider making a donation or participating in the online auction and raffle we will be offering during the tournament.

We hope you are well during this challenging time and that you will be able to join us virtually as we work to help children in our community Build Great Futures.
